Homeschool Dances, Hiking in the Mountains, and Burke On Beauty The Garrett Ashley Mullet Show

Our eldest two sons – Josiah and Elihu – attended a dance for homeschooled teenagers this past Friday. Spoiler alert: some Billie Jean and Rick Astley combined with perhaps too much lemonade, but made their telling of the whole business pure comedic gold, and their mother and I laughed until we cried when they got home.

My brother-in-law Kris Duff also came to visit us from North Dakota, staying for the weekend in my home office that doubles as a guest room. So the whole lot of us piled into our 12-passenger van and visited Rocky Mountain National Park for the first time only to realize we should have stopped for a bathroom break in Estes before a nearly 5-mile hike on Cub Lake Trail. Eight kids in tow made for a good stretch, and we were plum tuckered by the end.

In other news, I finished reading both ‘The Princess and the Goblin’ by George MacDonald and ‘A Philosophical Enquiry into the Sublime and Beautiful’ by Edmund Burke. Both well-deserved five stars out of five. And MacDonald’s fantasy will merit a Series Review once I finish the other works, which I hope to soon.

For this episode, however, let’s talk briefly about Burke’s foray into the realm of aesthetics, as well as what he says about “that part of a beautiful woman where she is perhaps the most beautiful.”

Also, I have some thoughts on the most recent news regarding Elon Musk taking over Twitter. What might his reasons be for declining a seat on her Board of Directors, and could it have something to do with his suggestion that the company change its name to ‘Titter’?

All that and more in this episode of The Garrett Ashley Mullet Show podcast.
