Leadership Strategy and Tactics – Field Manual – The Garrett Ashley Mullet Show
Jocko Willink’s ‘Leadership Strategy and Tactics: Field Manual’ (2020) is a helpful follow-up to his other co-authored works – ‘Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win’ (2015), and ‘The Dichotomy of Leadership: Balancing the Challenges of Extreme Ownership to Lead and Win’ (2018).
In his latest work, Willink adeptly uses personal and practical examples to drive home and further explain concepts from earlier books which merit emphasis and clarification.
For instance, consider Willink’s popular saying that “discipline equals freedom.” Why would that be true? And if it is true, what can we do about embodying that principle in ourselves and our teams?
For another example, how important is keeping our own ego in check when it comes to being able to work together and collaborate with others on projects and in teams?
In our families, workplaces, and churches, good leadership is no accident. It is the product of hard work, dedication, focus, and a commitment to making the right calls even when it is often easy and tempting to make the wrong calls. It only makes sense, then, to include intentionality in reading and study to the ways and means by which we seek to become better leaders.
To that end, whether we ourselves are leading and striving to get better at leading, or whether we are striving to understand better those we must follow and the burden they bear in exercising leadership over us, this is a worthwhile book to add to your reading list in pursuit of greater faithfulness and effectiveness.
